Is It Ski Season Yet? You Bet

By Rob Brown
August 10, 2009

Funny how summer slips away, isn't it? OnTheSnow.com, the world's most visited snow portal (source: Nielsen Net Ratings, January 2009) will launch the 2009-2010 winter season Monday, Sept. 7. Editor-In-Chief Craig Altschul reports OnTheSnow will publish 13 international editions in eight languages: Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish, and Swedish.

News content will focus heavily on what ski travellers are asking for - hot deals, events, season pass and lift ticket deals, improvements, holiday happenings, travel information, and much more. Altschul said the global editorial staff includes 16 seasoned, professional snow and travel journalists based in North America and throughout Europe. Roger Leo, based in New England, is Executive Editor/North America, while Alicia Taylor, located in the UK, is Executive Editor/Europe.

Altschul said resorts in California will want to welcome a familiar byline. Lora Finnegan, well-known for her years with Sunset Magazine as its travel editor, joins our staff to cover the California beat. Mid-Atlantic resorts will be pleased to see Mary Jo Tarallo, former ski editor with the Baltimore Sun and a long-time public relations and educational staffer with Snowsports Industries America (SIA), covering that region. Returning North American editors are Jill Adler; Roger Leo; Becky Lomax, Shannon Luthy, and Mike Terrell.
European editors include Alicia Taylor and Sam Thorne (OnTheSnow.co.uk); Christina Rebuffet-Broadus (NeigeSki.com - French); Daniela Eiletz-Kaube (SchneeSki.com - German); Jennifer Benavides Feather (NieveEsquiar -Spanish); Tamara Peters (SneeuwSki.com - Dutch); and Francesca Trabella (NeveSciare.com - Italy). All are professional European travel writers, natives to their respective languages. A complete roster, with e-mails and phone numbers of all editors, is available here.

Visitors to OnTheSnow.com will find a wide range of new features, including results of an exclusive OnTheSnow ski equipment testing program and expanded travel and lift ticket deals.

What It Means It's five o'clock and it's snowing somewhere. OnTheSnow.com, published by Mountain News Corporation, is ready to launch its 13th season from the Sierra to the Alps. Let it fly.
