Summer Shorts: It's A Bachelor Pad At Beaver Creek

By Craig Altschul
June 01, 2009

We'll bring you a bit of the lighter side of summer over the next few months in this space unless something nasty like news creeps in. This is about Bachelor. He is the resident Labrador Retriever at the Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch at Beaver Creek. The only dogs-welcome property at the resort is waiving its usual $125 per dog per stay fee all summer.

The Industry Report's Jill Adler says the resort makes traveling with man's best friend a real treat by delivering fresh-baked dog biscuits straight from the pastry kitchen to the guest's room, where your pampered pooch will find a comfy dog bed and water and food bowls. Guests need only mention the Dog Days of Summer at the front desk or when making their reservations to waive the fee and receive the special amenity.

Bachelor is in charge of the Loan-a-Lab hiking program. He makes himself available for guests to take on a hike if they didn't bring their own canine companion. The Ritz-Carlton rescued bachelor last October from the Eagle Valley Humane Society.

The Loan-a-Lab program is complimentary to hotel guests and appointments can be made in advance through the Concierge desk. Bachelor is available for private walks daily and can be reserved for 30- or 60-minute hikes on Bachelor's Loop, his favorite trail.

Bachelor can be found wandering around the resort grounds when he's not out hiking with guests or, most likely, lounging in the Great Room by the fireplace on his overstuffed bed, known as The Bachelor Pad.

Guests receive a Loan-a-Lab starter pack including a fanny pack with a bottle of water, a card with the Bachelor Basics, a trail map, a couple of all-natural health treats, and a waste disposal bag with each reservation.

Guests also receive an envelope in which they may make a confidential voluntary donation to the Eagle Valley Humane Society through Bachelor's Lockbox located by the Concierge desk in the main lobby.

What It Means: The saying, "it's a dog's life" takes on new meaning when your life can go from a a pen at the Humane Society to living large at the Ritz just like that. There's hope for all of us.

I still think there is merit to being a pet friendly property...
