Orinda, Calif. - OnTheSnow.com once again has confirmed its dominance as the number one most visited snow sports Web site, proving skiers and snowboarders remain passionate about their sport even during the current economic malaise.

Nielsen//NetRatings reports OnTheSnow.com captured 53.6 percent of the snow sports portal market share by logging 1,592,879 million unique visitors in January 2009. The ranking, certified by Hitwise Competitive Intelligence, increases OnTheSnow.com's market share from 49.6 percent a year ago. OnTheSnow.com is published by Mountain News Corp.

"Skiers and snowboarders are absolutely passionate about their sport,” said Mountain News Managing Director Chad Dyer. “They enjoy sharing information with each other and comparing snow conditions and experiences and are finding OnTheSnow.com particularly useful as they search for ways to stretch their budgets.

"The continued audited growth of OnTheSnow.com throughout North America and in Europe is an affirmation that skiers and snowboarders use the Web as their primary media source. OnTheSnow.com features the type of news and comparative information content that winter mountain visitors are looking for," Dyer said.

The Web site features worldwide snow condition reports, lift ticket and travel deals, resort-related weather, breaking news, events, and visitor reviews.

The Nielsen audit certified there were 1,987,371 user sessions in January 2009, with page impressions at 9,592,823. North American visits made up 1,335,677 with the Eastern regions tallying 467,645 of those. Visitors from the Far West were second at 331,582. The destination resort states in the Rocky Mountains generated 169,488 visits, while Midwestern skiers logged 161,178 visits. OnTheSnow.com recorded 605,529 visitors to its seven European editions that are published in respective languages.
