Say Boo - Index Reports 78 Percent Of Us Web Before Traveling

By Craig Altschul
January 12, 2009

Boo.com, a relatively new "tell us us what you thought of the place" travel Web site, released its second annual Travel Trust Index Report last month. It looks like the Web has become "trustworthy." That, alone, is a good sign.

The Travel Trust Index Report looks at the booking behaviors and preference of Americans and focuses on the trust levels for the many options available.

The key findings: 78 percent use the Web to make travel decisions; 68 percent trust the Web for travel-related advice; only 5 percent say travel agencies are their must trusted source for information.

"It's no secret that online review and booking sites have led to a revolution in the travel industry," Niam Ni Mhir, Chief Marketing Officer for Boo told the Travel Industry Wire. "However, the results of the Travel Trust Index indicate just how dramatically the industry has evolved in such a short period of time. The consumer has spoken and it is clear that the Web represents the dominant influencer when it comes to travel decisions."

Mhir said consumers are becoming savvy about online travel reviews and "treat each review individually... and with a critical eye." Still, Americans trust fellow Americans first, Canadians second, followed by British, Germans, and Italians, the report says.
