Three Words: Sales, Sales, Sales

By Craig Altschul

Well, there may not be a formal recession, but that doesn't mean the mountain resort travel industry isn't gathering steam. The annual Mountain Travel Symposium April 6-12 in Vail, Colo., is the industry's longest running (since 1975) and biggest (by far) travel buying, packaging, and selling trade show. It is already a virtual sell out.

"IR readers can still register if they move quickly," MTS Program Director Laurie Walton told The Industry Report. "We're expecting a record turnout of about 1,200 people." Registration and information is available at (888) 364-2222 or online at mtntrvl.com.

The week-long event features a fast-moving trade exchange matching buyers with sellers Monday and Tuesday. A group exchange, linking ski clubs and organizations to sellers, is conducted Friday.

The MTS Forum is always the highlight of the symposium. Participants choose among six workshop tracks to follow from hospitality to Web marketing. Speakers are all proven experts in their realm.

Forum Keynoter is Rick Barrera, author of the best-selling book, Over-Promise, Over Deliver. Barrera will present his "Touchpoint Branding" methodology - a step-by-step guide for securing market value for your brand.

(Editor's Note: Mountain News Corp., publishers of The Industry Report has felt the Mountain Travel Symposium to be among the most important industry gatherings of each year. Mountain News, along with Hertz, Mountain Reservations, Ski.com, and United Airlines, are corporate sponsors.)
