Jackson Ups Air Ante Despite Northwest's Woes

By Craig Altschul
June 12, 2006

Grand Tetons
Keeping up with the Joneses or, more importantly, the Vails and Aspens, is not easy in today's competitive market. But Jackson Hole, Wyo. is hanging right in, announcing a seven percent jump in air capacity for the 2006/07 winter Friday, despite losing service from Northwest because of "changing business conditions" (read: Chapter 11).

Jackson Hole Communications Director Anna Olson told The Industry Report that Jackson Hole Air Improvement Services (JH AIR), a nonprofit private-public partnership of community, business and elected representatives, confirmed that season long daily 757 services on American Airlines will lead the way.

Delta Airlines will check in passengers with five daily CRJJ70 flights and one daily 757 flight from Salt Lake City, plus three daily 757s winging in each week from Atlanta.

Existing daily service remains in place from Chicago via American; Denver via United; and Cincinnati (Saturdays) and Atlanta (weekends) on Delta. Northwest will no longer fly to Jackson. However, NW passengers will be able to use their mileage privileges on Delta's SLC, Atlanta, or Cincinnati flights.

"These changes will ensure we remain a competitive destination in the winter," said JH AIR President Mike Gierau. He said the resort area was disappointed to be losing Northwest, but the increase in Delta service from Salt Lake provides "improved quality and choice of service."

So, until the next airline bankruptcy, that's the air scene in the Grand Tetons.
