Board Thefts Prompt Beefed-Up Security At Tahoe Resorts
By December 26, 2005
Is Boreal Mountain Resort especially prone to snowboard thefts? A Tahoe-area newspaper says "yes," quoting a Nevada County sheriff's deputy as saying his department leaves crime reporting forms there "because there's too many of them for us to respond to all the time. We'd never get away from the place."
Rachael Woods, Boreal's public relations manager, said the story unfairly targeted the popular resort. ""Thefts are greater because there are more people at Boreal," she told Industry Report. "It is frustrating no matter where you are. I think we do a good job at providing inexpensive and/or free measures" to avoid theft. Woods noted that signs warn riders to keep equipment with them. Boreal also offers gear-checking for $2.
Both Heavenly and Sierra-at-Tahoe said they had stepped up security because of the increasing theft problem.
