Telluride Promo: Fly Down Slopes, Get Mileage Credit

By
November 28, 2005

"SlopeTracker," a GPS system attached to an armband that allows skiers and riders to record how many vertical feet they have covered, is the latest rental gimmick at several major resorts.

Now Telluride will take the tracker to a new level by offering guests one Continental Airlines frequent flyer mile for every 100 vertical feet they ski or ride wearing SlopeTracker.

The arrangement is open to any guests who book a four-day or more stay and travel with Continental. The resort will lend them a SlopeTracker free. "The real focus for us was to make people aware that we have a partnership with Continental," said Ken Stone, Telluride's director of sales and marketing.

Anyone can rent a SlopeTracker for $35 per day in Telluride. Other participating resorts: Copper, Keystone, Winter Park and Park City.

Even before the lifts began running, Stone told Industry Report bookings on Continental's resort-subsidized non-stop flights from Los Angeles to nearby Montrose were up 10 percent.
