If You've Got Champagne Taste On A Beer Budget...
By October 17, 2005
Just because you could not pony up $365-million for Mammoth Mountain in California doesn't mean you can't take aim at buying a ski area. You just have to lower your sights.
Hidden Valley in western Pennsylvania is still up for grabs after paying $500,000 of a $1.1-million back-taxes bill last month. Spokesman Keith James said the resort, which includes an inn, lodge, land and 18-hole golf course, got "about half a dozen" bids by its Sept. 30 deadline.
There's no word on the suitors. Starwood, the private real estate and investment group that snapped up Mammoth, also recently bought a controlling interest in Taittinger, the French Champagne company.
