End Of A Legacy In Stowe

By J.D. O'Connor
September 05, 2005

Peter Ruschp, the last member of a pioneering ski family almost as well known in Stowe as the mountain itself, died last week after a battle with cancer.

He was 61.

Ruschp was the son of Sepp Ruschp, an Austrian who started the ski school for the resort in 1936, when it was known as the Mount Mansfield Ski Club. Peter Ruschp became ski school director in 1975, retiring in 1995.

Ruschp was a member of the U.S. Ski Team in the 60s, training and racing with his friend and fellow Stowe racer Billy Kidd.
