No More Dollars For Mt. Sunapee?

Anyone looking for more improvements to New Hampshire's Mount Sunapee may be looking for quite a while. Tim and Diane Mueller, who lease the ski area from the state (they also are the principal owners of Vermont's Okemo and Colorado's Crested Butte), are being blocked from expanding the resort to connect it to land in neighboring Goshen, where they want to build condos.
Gov. John Lynch has pledged to either keep the plan from going to the Executive Council or vetoing it if the council approves it.
Sunapee General Manager Jay Gamble has told area media he has "given up hope" of trying to change Lynch's mind. He says the governor has "proven to be unfair and unreasonable."
Lynch's objections center around his conviction that the Sunapee expansion means "relinquishing part of our state park for the purpose of enhancing the value of a private condominium complex."
The Muellers have invested more than $14 million in the leased ski area since they took over operations eight years ago. So, what's planned for next year? A new maintenance building. An impasse is an impasse.
Meanwhile, it's not looking much better for the planned expansion of Jackson Hole Resort in Teton Village, Wyo. The Teton County Commission voted 3-2 last week against the resort's expansion plan that was four years in the making. The proposal, crafted by Snake River Associates, a ranching family, was backed by the resort. It called for 466 houses, 81,000 feet of commercial space and parking areas, paths, trails, and more.
